Fed, Farmers and Friends Feed Families

USDA Agencies Participating in Feds, Farmers, and Friends Feed Families Food Drive

USDA agencies in Michigan, including NRCS, the Farm Service Agency and Rural Development are participating in the Feds, Families, and Friends Feed Families federal food drive campaign. Non-perishable food items and health and sanitary products are being collected at local USDA Service Center and donated to local food banks. The food drive will continue through the end of August.

Conservation Stewardship Program

First CSP Sign-Up to Deliver $11 Million to Michigan Farmers

Results of the first Conservation Stewardship Program sign-up included 271 contracts awarded in Michigan. All types of agricultural land can be enrolled in the program including crop land, orchards, pasture and non-industrial private forest land. In Michigan, 104,846 acres were enrolled in the program including 73,497 of crop land, 28,429 acres of forest land and 2,920 acres of pasture. Nationally 10,630 Conservation Stewardship Program contracts were awarded including 12,688,937 acres.

NRCS - 75 Years of Helping People Help the Land

2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the beginning of the federal commitment to conserving natural resources on private lands. Originally established by Congress in 1935 as the Soil Conservation Service, NRCS has expanded to become a conservation leader for all natural resources, ensuring private lands are conserved, restored, and more resilient to environmental challenges, like climate change.
