The
NRCS-Michigan Toolbar
Describes the process for activating
the NRCS-Michigan Tools in ArcMap.
Acres
and Length
Calculates area, perimeter, and
length of ArcMap features and graphics.
Coordinate
Tools
Captures, converts, and saves
coordinates in Decimal Degrees, Degrees-Minutes-Seconds, or the current map
projection.
Layer
Cutter
"Cookie-cuts" a polygon feature layer
based on user-defined graphics or features. Generates a summary acreage
report and optionally saves the new "clipped" shapefile.
Quick
Soil Inventory
Much like "Layer Cutter", but for soil layers
only and much faster to use. Generates a summary acreage report based
on a user-defined area of interest.
Geodata Updates
NAIP Status
The National Agricultural Imagery
Program (NAIP) photography for Michigan is still under development.
Unfortunately, the initial Color Infrared (CIR) version was determined to be
unusable for most NRCS purposes in Michigan.
The good news is that Michigan will instead receive a Natural Color (NC) version
of the 2005 NAIP. This NC photography should provide a much more usable photographic base for most GIS applications. Delivery is expected
in the early summer of 2006.
Software Updates
Soil Data Viewer
Soil Data Viewer version 5 (SDV5) has
been installed on all NRCS computers. SDV5 allows users to easily generate
interpretive soil maps and reports for counties with available SSURGO soil data.
An online user guide is available at the
Soil Data Viewer website.
DNR Garmin
DNR Garmin version 5.1.1 has been
installed on all NRCS computers. This software, developed by the Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources, functions within the ArcMap environment and is
the only method supported by NRCS-MI for uploading and downloading data from the
Garmin GPS units. Users can access DNR Garmin from their Windows "Start" menu.
