GIS Skill Builder Updates

 

Adobe Acrobat DocumentSoil Symbols Tool

Adds a new ArcMap group layer which contains the SSURGO special feature lines and points.

How to access the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) wetland inventory maps from within ArcMap.

 

 

Geodata Updates

 

Certified Wetland Determinations

The shapefiles which will contain digitized wetland determination polygons have been placed on field office servers. Except in a limited number of test offices, these shapefiles are currently empty. Digitizing will begin in 2007.
Users should ignore these wetland layers until training has been provided.

Field Imagery Updates

NRCS-MI has initiated two efforts to capture historic field photography as digital imagery. The resulting imagery can be displayed as raster layers within ArcMap.

FSA Legacy Master Photos -  Georeferencing underway - est. completion 10/2007

FSA 35mm Compliance Slides -  Various counties currently being scanned.

 

(Volunteers are currently need for scanning the remaining 35mm slides. Please contact Lynn Sampson, NRCS State Biologist, for more information.)

Certified Wetland Determinations

A wetland determination training session has been scheduled for each NRCS-MI area in 2007. A preliminary agenda is available here. The training dates are as follows:

 

Area 4 - 02/08/2007

Area 3 - 03/28/2007

Area 1 - 04/05/2007

 

 

Software Updates
 

NRCS-MI ArcMap Tools

A new version of the NRCS-Michigan ArcMap Tools has been distributed to NRCS field offices. This version includes all of the wetland determination utilities developed for Michigan. User guides are available in the ArcGIS 8.3 Skill Builders section of the NRCS-Michigan GIS web page.

 

Customer Service Toolkit SP3

The recent Toolkit Service Pack 3 (SP3) update has caused the default Toolkit GIS user level to reset to "Basic". Michigan Toolkit users should reset their GIS User Level back to "Advanced" in Toolkit Preferences.
