Digitizing - A Decision Flowchart for CSP
A question and answer flow chart to
assist planners in choosing the most efficient method to digitize land units for
Conservation Security Plan (CSP) planning.

Client Data - What's saved where?
Describes the storage location of
Toolkit client data between the local server and the National Conservation
Planning Database (NCPDB). Illustrates the structure of the client database,
including geospatial and planning data.
Geodata Updates
ZIP Codes
TeleAtlas geospatial data layers
representing US Postal Service ZIP Codes have been placed on every server. The
polygon shapefiles can be found in
"f:\geodata\government_units\zipcode_tapd_a_mi[COUNTY_FIPS].shp".
SSURGO Updates
FY05 saw the certification and
distribution of 8 SSURGO datasets: Allegan, Cass, Clare, Houghton, Ingham,
Ionia, Kalamazoo, and Ottawa Counties. Sixty-two (62) Michigan soil survey areas
have been completed.
NAIP Status
The National Agricultural Imagery
Program (NAIP) photography for Michigan is currently under development. Digital
collection of the imagery was successfully completed in August, and the
resulting data is now being processed. A preliminary version should be available
by the end of the calendar year.
Software Updates
Soil Data Viewer
Soil Data Viewer version 5 (SDV5) has
been released. This version operates within ArcGIS to create thematic maps and
reports based on SSURGO soil properties and interpretations. SDV5 also runs as a
stand-alone, tabular, soil database reporting tool for counties with no
geospatial soil layer. NRCS-MI is planning to roll out SDV5 in December and
January. Updated SSURGO databases are currently being processed, and a
"Train-The-Trainers" session is scheduled for mid-December.
NRCS-MI Tools
Portions of the "NRCS-MI Tools"
ArcView utilities are being rewritten, along with added functionality for
ArcGIS. However, Information Technology Services (ITS) policy dictates
that state-developed software must be tested by the their national
Interoperability (IO) Lab prior to distribution. It is unclear how long
the testing process will take.
