Michigan NRCS Celebrates first WRP Project with an American Indian Tribe

USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Gary W. Mast and Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Tribal Chairperson Laura Spurr helped celebrate the first enrollment of an American Indian Tribe into the Wetlands Reserve Program in Michigan. The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi enrolled 77.6 acres into a permanent easement to restore and enhance wetlands habitat.

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi  hosted the event on May 20, 2007 in conjunction with Earth Day. The Land Blessing was held on the WRP property near the Pine Creek Reservation in Calhoun County.
